Fuck yea! I went to my first open mic night (it was held in my town), and it was awesome! The audience and performers were fabulous. There were so many nice and unique people to talk with. When I signed in at the door, I was given a performance number( #1) – I got to warm up the audience! Before I read my poetry, I shared the inspiration and had the audience imagine the set and setting I was describing. Towards the end of my reading I was really joyful. I could see and feel the engagement of the audience, especially when one of my poems had a slight twist at the end and the audience reacted to the twist – so cool! I enjoyed the experience, and others did as well – there was enormous positivity in the room. Someone even asked me to join their poetry group. Ha! The other performers were fabulous. There were two singers that were outstanding. I was blown away by all the amazing artistic talent around my neighborhood. I can’t wait to go to the next one!!
